Meet Imagine H2O Asia’s Third Cohort of Water Tech Companies

Updated: Nov 1, 2023

Australia-based TracWater will partner with Singapore-based accelerator program to solve South and Southeast Asia’s water and wastewater crisis.

Asia is the world’s most water-stressed continent. While home to more than half of the world’s inhabitants, Asia has less freshwater available per capita than anywhere else. Population growth, particularly in low-lying coastal cities, threatens already vulnerable supplies. At the same time, too much water poses new risks. Since 2000, flood-related disasters have more than doubled globally with over 80% of people affected living in Asia.

As the COP26 summit unfolds this week, the region’s decision makers are acknowledging that its water resource challenges are inextricably linked to climate disruption. Solutions are not only needed to help mitigate today’s water-related climate impacts. They are also required to position the water and wastewater solutions of tomorrow on a new path towards decarbonization and resource recovery. Selected from a field of 100+ applicants from 23 countries, the twelve water tech start-ups in Imagine H2O Asia Cohort 3 boldly challenge the water management status quo.

From robotic water disinfection monitoring to energy-efficient wastewater treatment and reuse to biodegradable polymers for water-saving irrigation, each company represents an innovative and sustainable approach to reusing and recycling more, wasting less, mitigating pollution, and boosting access and equity. As a bridge for global solutions to the region, Imagine H2O Asia’s mission aims to also foster entrepreneurship locally across South and Southeast Asia.

Cohort 3 is Imagine H2O Asia’s most geographically diverse cohort yet with 10 out of 12 companies based in five countries in the Asia-Pacific. Included in Cohort 3 is TracWater, the first Australiaheadquartered company selected for Imagine H2O Asia’s program. TracWater will collaborate with Imagine H2O Asia and its growing customer network to test, market and deploy their real-time water quality robots in markets across the wider region. As a participant in Imagine H2O Asia, TracWater will also showcase their solutions at Singapore International Water Week 2022.

TracWater is a world-wide leader in cloud-based robotics to monitor water quality. TracWater robots are battery powered, plug-and-play and wireless for water quality measurement throughout the distributed water pipeline network. The robots are tightly integrated to cloud-based big data management providing customers with real-time visibility and predictive analysis. Customers have TracWater’s patented technologies to rapidly understand what is happening to water disinfection in underground pipes and to accurately predict what will happen for water quality, usage and assets.

About Imagine H2O Asia

Led by the San Francisco-headquartered NGO Imagine H2O, Imagine H2O Asia is the first specialised accelerator exclusively focused on scaling water technology start-ups across South and Southeast Asia. From industrial wastewater treatment and reuse to utility water loss detection, Imagine H2O Asia sources across a range of water resource challenges in the region to identify innovative solutions that advance progress towards SDG 6. Since 2018, Imagine H2O Asia has provided the resources to develop and deploy 20 global start-ups from the organization’s hub in Singapore. The wider organization has supported 150+ start-ups since its founding in 2009. The program is led by Imagine H2O, a San Francisco-based non-profit, and supported by Enterprise Singapore, SUEZ, Xylem, Kurita, and PUB – Singapore’s National Water Agency.
